You can download the FairConsent App for Android and iOS.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

How does the FairConsent app work?

  • Open the app and select "Record new consent".
  • Create a project for the production in which you need to collect consents.
  • Fill in the contact information for the photographer or videographer, as well as for the commissioning organisation or company.
  • Choose for whom you want to get consent and add their details.
  • Choose the language of the consent, then either play the audio recording or show the consent text to the person being photographed or filmed.
  • Record consent through a signature or a photo with a thumbs-up gesture.
  • Add a child or a witness to the consent if needed.
  • Create another consent form or generate a PDF and share it via email or any app of your choice.

Do children have to give consent?

Children are personalities and we recommend that children aged 14 or older should give their consent to their picture. If the child or children are under 14 years old, consent of a parent or guardian is required.

Why are email addresses and phone numbers important?

People who have been photographed or filmed should be able to easily withdraw their consent in the future. They can do this by emailing or texting the creator or the commissioning organisation. Their email address and/or phone number is needed to link their request to the photo or video.

If no phone number: insert "0".

If no e-mail address: insert "@".

Is the app available in a language other than English?

The FairConsent app itself is currently only available in English. The consents and explanations are available in several languages.

In which languages is the text of the consent form available?

The consent texts are currently available in Akan Twi, Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, Dari, English, French, Hindi, Malagasy, Nepali, Portuguese, Russian, Sinhala, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Tigrinya.

All persons photographed should be addressed in a language with which they are familiar. If a language is missing, please contact us at info@fairpicture.org. We will include it in the next update of the app if possible.

Why is a witness needed and who can act as a witness?

Consent is more credible if there is a witness. Any adult present can testify that consent was given. Usually this is a staff member of the commissioning party, a local contact or co-producer.

Can I edit a recorded consent?

Once you have finished recording a consent, you will find an overview of the recorded consents on your smartphone and you can edit them by clicking on the consent you want to edit.

How can I export the consents?

After completing the consents, you can share them using the app of your choice on your smartphone. We recommend sharing them via email or uploading them to a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.

IMPORTANT: Consents contain sensitive data. Please respect the privacy of those you photograph or film by storing consents in a safe cloud and encrypting any hard drives containing consents.

Where can I find the consents once I shared them?

Once you've shared your consents and closed the project, you won't be able to access them in the app or make further edits.
